Background:

Wilhelmina Quaye obtained an MPhil Degree in Agricultural Economics from University of Ghana in 2002. Currently pursuing a PHD in Social Science at Wageningen University CTC group. I am interested in social aspects of technology development and socioeconomic research.

Research:

Enhancing Food Sovereignty for better future nutrition in Ghana - A case study of local cowpea food network

This PHD study forms part of an interdisciplinary research program called Tailoring Food Sciences to Endogenous Patterns of Local Food Supply for Future Nutrition (TELFUN), consisting of plant breeders, food technologists, nutritionists and social scientists from Benin/Ghana, Ecuador and India with funding from Interdisciplinary Research and Education Fund (INREF). As part of the collaborative research programme, this social science project investigates how best the local cowpea network can be strengthened to enhance food sovereignty for future nutrition. The PHD is a sandwich programme with local field work in Ghana. Thus in Ghana, selected school feeding programs will be used as a test case for enhancing food sovereignty through strengthening community based production and consumption patterns in local cowpea network.
Two other PhD projects that are part of the overarching TELFUN research programme are carried out by Alexandra Martinez and Shweta Singh.
